Day 2

Went to a Fantastic restaurant called Shelley's where we embarked on an adventurous food endeavor.
We tackled a monster breakfast item called the Route 66 Slinger.
We were ordering two of these and the waitress asked if we knew what we were doing.  We of course had no clue.  This thing had a full order of biscuits and gravy and order of hash browns topped with chili and 4 scrambled eggs.  Dear Lord this thing was huge. Thank goodness we listened to the lady and only ordered one.

Funny little side note.  After we got filled up with biscuits, beans and eggs.  I dropped Kevin off here.  Dear Lord pray for them all if he releases.  (hee hee hee).

While Kevin was at church I toured the town of Cuba, MO the city of Murals.

Refurbished Phillips 66 Station

The murals on the side of the building represent the history of the four corners.
The original owner sold Pontiac cars from this location then in 1932 built this cottage style gas station.  It was later sold to a man who turned it into a Mobil Station and the first office of Wallis Oil.

The Mural in the picture below is honoring Mayor Al West.  He was the mayor of Cuba from 1946 to 1958.

We also found out that Jesus was King of the Road in Cuba, MO

The mural below represents and honors those were taken away on the Blue Bonnet, a Frisco train to help protect our way of life

The murals below represent battles that occurred near Cuba

The Rescue at Leasburg

 Confederates in Cuba.

 Destroying the Fort

The picture below represent an era in town "When apple was King"  from 1895 - 1920.  By 1900 Cuba was the largest producer, processor and distributer in Missouri.  They also made the barrels that the apples where distributed in.  The apple industry is long gone from here but they still make barrels.

Below are a couple of store fronts downtown

Church is now over and Kevin and I are off to the world's largest rocking chair.

A short 4 miles away and we have made it to the 66 outpost and the chair

The world largest rocking chair stands 42' 4" tall, 20 ft. wide and weighs in at 27,500 pounds

St. James, MO brings you the Murdon Dripping Faucet.  Was originally made for Friede plumbing company.  In 1974 the sign was modified to say Murdon for a concrete company that did septic tanks.

The mule trading post in Rolla, MO

Below is the mini Stonehenge in Rolla, MO the trilithons stand 13.25 feet tall and the diameter of it is 50 ft.

Not for sure but I think we have nothing but blue skies ahead of us.  Kevin peed on the devil's elbow today.

A classic Neon Sign on 66 in Lebanon, MO

Wrink's a family run market opened in 1940 and ran continuously through 2005 until The owner passed.  It was closed for a brief period and was opened again by the owners son.

Below is the carousel on Route 66

One of my most favorite spots on the Route.  It holds a special place in my heart.  Good memories and a friend made. We met Miss Melba the Mouth in 2011 and seen her again in 2013 and now we have made another friend in Galena, KS.  Miss Renee Melba's sister.  We had a great time chatting with her.

Renee even took us over to the Murder Bordello even though it was closed and she was off work for the day.  THANK YOU!!!

The rumor of the murder bordello is that Madam Staffleback  in the 1890 along with three accomplices killed and robbed up to 50 clients at the house of prostitution in Galena.  She her two sons and her husband were convicted of murdering Frank Galbraith, a miner and dumping his body into a nearby mine shaft.  All were convicted of charges stemming from the killing. She then became known as the "Galena's Bloody Madam".  She died in prison in 1909.

The blue tarp on the side of the house is covering this stained glass. We were able to take this pic from the inside.

They have put a lot of effort and money into saving this house.

The picture below is Kevin waiting for Bordello host (The Ghost of) to come and kiss him.  This spot in the house has had the most sightings.

This is us with Renee

Old Riverton Store has been operating on the route before it even officially opened in It was built in 1925 in the town of Riverton, KS.

In Baxter Springs, KS is the "Rainbow Bridge" that was built in 1926 and is the only remaining Marsh Arch bridge on Route 66.  You can still drive on it.

Here we are Miami, OK pronounced (Miamah, OK) at Waylan's Ku-Ku Burger  this is the only remaining restaurant from a fast food drive-in chain from the 1960s

WOOOHOO! Catoosa, OK the infamous Blue Whale "Zippy" was built in 1970 as an anniversary gift to Hughes wife Zelta.

Here he is all 80ft. of him built of pipe and concrete.  He has a diving platform on his tail and a slide coming out of his head.

Our final destination for the night is the Skyliner Motel in Stroud,OK.  The Neon on this in mint condition.  Awesome!
