Day 5

Owl Rock (They may have had some "medicinal" assistance with this)

Budville Trading company was established in 1938 in Budville, New Mexico

 San Fidel, New Mexico

The sculpture below is in the city park.  It celebrates the city's Native American culture, uranium mining, and the pioneers.

It is this type of rock formation that inspired the old "Wagon Wheel Motel" in the movie Cars.

The old Wagon Wheel Motel

Please take note.  We are driving on a dirt road! We decided it would be fun to get closer to the mountain range ahead.  We ended up entering an Indian reservation.  We are currently driving on Indian service Route 485.  There were a few times it would have been a good idea to have 4 wheel drive during this adventure.

 Stick em up!!!

You took to long! So we robbed our neighbors from across the pond.  Our original guess was they were from Australia.  We had overheard the gentleman say Krikey, but come to find out they were from England traveling route 66 and were having a jolly good time with us.

Kevin and I are on day 5 of the "Sharing is Caring Game".  Kevin fired the first shot and has been shooting party poppers.    I came to win this!

A little WigWam History

The wigwam in Holbrook, AZ is village # 6 out of  7 villages built between 1930 and 1950

Each teepee is 21 feet wide at the base and 28 feet high. The teepees are painted white with a red zigzag above the doorway. Rooms feature the original hand-made hickory furniture, and each is equipped with a sink, toilet, and shower. Vintage automobiles are permanently parked throughout the property.

The green benches next to the WigWams have the words WigWam Village #6 etched into all of them.

The Wigwams are positioned in a semicircle around the main lobby building

Now we can say we have slept in a WigWam!

This is one of the original Route 66 hotels recently refurbished.  Stayed there on a previous 66 trip.

 Train Station in Holbrook

Holbrook is in  Navajo County and is the gateway to the Petrified Forest.

See ya later Holbrook we are off on our next adventure.
